Joshua Redman/Brad Mehldau Duo
MaiJazz has the great pleasure to invite you to a truly unusual jazz experience when Brad Mehldau, piano, and Joshua Redman, sax, enter the stage at Stavanger Konserthus. Both have visited MaiJazz before, but never together. They are at the top of the jazz firmament, two highly respected musicians that offer jazz of the highest quality.
“Redman is adventurous without all the squeals and squawks of other players, adept at writing both lyrically and rhythmically… creating an episode of engaging storytelling on one tune.” —Variety
“Brad Mehldau has a warm, pliable, softly radiant touch at the piano, suggestive of waning sunlight or certain precious metals.” —New York Times
Saxophonist Joshua Redman and pianist Brad Mehldau first performed together in Redman’s acclaimed quartet which gained prominence during the 90’s “young jazz lion” period. In the decade and a half since, both Grammy- nominated musicians have grown as renowned leaders in their own ensembles, reaching international and critical acclaim, while forging their own distinctive voices as modern-day icons in the jazz/contemporary music vernacular. Re-joining for an intimate performance; the duo format fosters a new convergence for these two old friends where they can create music that swings and deeply connects to the spirit.
