Nicholas Payton Quintet

World-renowned trumpeter Nicholas Payton has been applauded and praised almost perpetually since the release of his debut album "From this Moment". Performing at Stavangeren in quintet format, Payton has his roots in the New Orleans tradition but has always had an inquisitive approach to jazz. His wanderings have led him into a modern jazz landscape, resulting in among other things, electronica-oriented experimentation, where the sound is both a nod to the past as well as progressive. Funky, up-tempo compositions mesh with melancholy ballads, yet always with the quintessential beauty and elegance of the American jazz tradition. Payton is not only a hit with the public, but also with his many collaborators which include Art Blakey, Ray Charles, Elvin Jones, Dianne Reeves, Doc Cheatham and Milt Jackson.
