Jaga Jazzist

Ever since exploding onto the Norwegian jazz scene in the 90s, Jaga Jazzist have pretty much been standard bearers in terms of recording, live performance and musical innovation: bags of sound, hypnotising, groovy, playful…a phenomenal mix of acoustic and electronic instruments and outstanding solo performances. A populous band, comprising household names on the Norwegian jazz and pop front, they have never really been too hung up on genres. And justifiably so: they’ve staked out their own.

Their latest release One-armed Bandit has hit the jackpot with critics both at home and abroad. The likes of the BBC and The Times dealing out the compliments should be proof enough that the gang still hold many a good hand, and are not content to rest on their laurels. The interwoven smorgasbord of musical ideas appeals to all those hungering for challenging music and the JJ’s are now so moreish, that you won’t be able to leave them alone.
