Would you like to work as a volunteer at MaiJazz 2011?
Registration for the festival in 2010 is open! Tuesday 10 until Sunday 15 May sees the stage set for Stavanger’s big annual jazz happening. The program is now finalized and we need enthusiastic, keen and reliable helpers who can be responsible for the smooth running of the event and ensure that this festival is a success.
If you want to join our crew, please register in our online registration form here, but first we would like you to read the information below.
What do we offer our volunteers?
As a volunteer, you form part of operations behind the scenes. It is rewarding and fun and you meet lots of like-minded helpers. You also get:
• a festival pass (providing you work at least four shifts)
• an EDUN Live Fair Trade ecological jazz helper t-shirt
• a festival program with all necessary information and instructions
• a work reference - voluntary work always looks good on a CV
• the option of buying a stylish jazz volunteer jacket, in soft shell-design, for NOK 100.
• discounts on MaiJazz effects
• social gatherings (Kick off party at Folken 3.mai. 18:00)
What would you like to do?
Below is a list of what we need help with during the festival.
Artist welfare representative
Here you are the musicians’ contact person from the day they arrive until the day they depart. Should they need to know the time of a sound check, which restaurant they are eating at and so on, you need to be able to tell them. These shifts normally start in the afternoon and end after the concert is over.
Ticket sales/fire guards
The public’s first point of contact at a concert is often a ticket sales or security rep that ensures their safety. Duties here include sale of tickets and memorabilia, ticket control and fire duty at the venue. These shifts last from three to six hours depending on the concert and venue.
Catering
Musicians should be happy with the catering arrangements backstage, and volunteers also get hungry during a busy day. Good food and drink is supplied for us - your job is to ensure it gets distributed to the relevant venues. These shifts require that you're available during daytime. We also have our catering place at Klubben (in front on Clarion Hotel) where we will serve artists and volunteers lunch and dinner. These shifts require that you are available during daytime and/or evening time.
Festival office/reception
Located on the third floor at the Clarion Hotel. You need to have a good overall knowledge of everything going on during the festival. You need to answer telephone calls concerning where to buy tickets, manage artist accreditation/passes, volunteer, guest and press passes etc.
Information caravan
The public appreciates information about what goes on during the festival, whether it is programmes, ticket sales, and so on. Our stylish festival caravan will be standing in the centre of town for precisely this purpose. These shifts require that you're available during daytime.
Concert coordinator
Our concerts are organised on many different stages and venues and you will be responsible for implementing one of these. You will become acquainted with the venue, get an overall view of emergency exits, ensure backstage areas are in order and who is selling tickets. These shifts normally start in the afternoon and end after the concert is over.
Rigging/stage/technical
As a rigger you get to assist our technical personnel getting equipment into place at the agreed time, and de-rigging it afterwards. These shifts require that you're available during daytime or after the concerts have ended.
Transport service
As a driver, you will be responsible for getting musicians and equipment to and from the airport and concert venues. We need responsible drivers, preferably with licenses valid for a variety of different vehicle types, and who have knowledge of Stavanger and the surrounding area.
If this is something you want to be a part of, please fill out the online registration form.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our volunteers coordinator Trine Djuvik Haaland at frivillig@maijazz.no 975 776 37. We look forward to work together with you during MaiJazz 2011! Welcome!
